Protecting Oceans

Marine biodiversity is critically important to our daily lives. Conservation International continues to identify marine regions where strategic actions can literally make a world of difference.

The Eastern Tropical Pacific Seascape conserves 2 million square kilometers of ocean from Costa Rica to Ecuador.

In 2006, we deployed a Rapid Assessment Program team off the northeast coast of Madagascar. Our mission: to document the incredible diversity of life in these waters.

We're working with partners to stop the destruction of the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape due to commercial fishing and other marine threats.

Across the Bird's Head Seascape live 1,300 types of reef fishes and nearly 600 species of hard corals – not to mention whales, crocodiles, and the crowd favorite: a walking shark.

Conservation efforts must focus on entire ecosystems. The Hawaiian Islands ecosystem is under the watchful eye of the Global Marine Partnership Fund.
