SBSTTA 16 and WGRI 4

These conferences, the 16th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the 4th meeting of the Working Group for the Review of Implementation (WGRI) of the CBD, took place from from April 30 – May 5 and May 7 –11, respectively, in Montreal, Canada. CBD negotiators addressed a variety of issues, including climate change safeguards, marine priority areas, incentives for conservation and funding targets, as they prepared for the 11th CBD Conference of the Parties in Hydrabad, India October 2012.



Our role

CI's engagement with these meetings included providing technical support to Parties, meeting with intergovernmental bodies and non- governmental partners, and participating in side events.

CI prepared two position papers to inform the negotiations:

CI also worked with partners to develop step-by-step guidance for countries who wish to identifying their funding needs for achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets established under the CBD at the last Conference of the Parties.
