Toyota Motor Corporation is not only financially supporting CI's effort to restore and protect the Philippines' Peñablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape (PPLS), located in the Northeastern part of the Island of Luzon, but also working together with CI to achieve the highest possible conservation outcomes.
In January 2010, Toyota Motor Company and CI announced that over 7000 acres of their joint forestry project in the PPLS have been certified in the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) Standard’s Gold Level – the highest level achievable. The project was validated against the CCB Standards by the Rainforest Alliance and marks a significant milestone for CI and Toyota’s partnership.
The reforestation in the project site will contribute to the protection of the largest remaining tract of natural forest in one of the world's Megadiversity countries, with full participation of local communities. Toyota and CI are implementing sustainable activities including reforestation, agroforestry and local community development.
