In 2007, Kimberly-Clark joined CI and the Instituto BioAtlântica to launch the Sustainable Production and Biodiversity Conservation in Forest Mosaics Initiative. The goal of the Initiative is to create sustainable forest mosaics - “puzzles” of different land uses that meet multiple demands for food, fiber, fuel and ecosystem services and generate multiple benefits for the economy, society and the planet.
The partners are working with large pulp and paper companies, and other NGOs, in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil to share information related to land use planning, conservation and monitoring; and to reach out to smaller outgrowers to achieve greater results than they could have done alone. The result is forest mosaics which are both economically and environmentally sustainable. This concept is now being expanded globally to other plantation forest regions.
Kimberly-Clark is a leading global health and hygiene company employing nearly 53,000 people worldwide and posting sales of $19.4 billion in 2008.
