Our collaboration with Intel Corporation stretches back more than 10 years and has produced conservation tools that harness Intel's technological prowess and Conservation International’s scientific expertise.
Intel has invented groundbreaking new technology that eliminates lead, and soon halogen, from the semiconductor manufacturing process. To celebrate the launch of their new lead-free processors, Intel has given out sunflowers – a unique species whose blossoms draw lead from the ground and leave healthier, more fertile soil behind – and now they're taking their green thumbs to Second Life.
Intel is calling all Second Life avatars to help sow a field of sunflowers at the foot of Intel Tower on Intel Island in the Second Life World. You can plant up to ten new flowers every 24 hours, and for each one, Intel will donate real-world $1 to CI, up to $10,000.
You'll also earn one entry into the Intel Sunflowers Sweepstakes for a chance to win real world prizes, including a Gateway P-171X FX Edition notebook for entertainment and gaming on the go. Click here for the full sweepstakes rules.
Want more chances to win? Just invite your friends. At the Sunflower Kiosk on Intel Island you’ll find gift seeds and invitations. When someone you’ve invited plants a flower you both earn a point and each point is one entry into the drawing. And every visitor will enjoy great giveaways to enhance the in-world experience, including an extremely cool laptop attachment with three optional skins and an Intel jetpack that flies higher and faster once you've located the two hidden power chips.
In addition, Gateway is providing an exclusive discount coupon on notebooks $899.99 and up ($50 OFF with code SUNFLOWER, offer ends May 25, 2008).
If you're already a Second Life resident you can teleport directly to Intel Island by clicking here. If you haven't yet experienced the Second Life world firsthand, click here to download the Second Life client.
