The VP position leads the designing, developing and implementing all aspects of the CEPF strategy to ensure high level delivery, including representing the Fund internally within CI and externally, generating and implementing sustainable funding strategies, managing donor relationships, setting standards for operational and financial management, hiring and developing key staff and ensuring that human and financial resources are aligned and maximized for the greatest mission impact. 

CEPF has committed more than $113 million in grants and enabled co-financing and leverage of nearly double this amount for conservation and sustainable development in some of the world’s most critical ecosystems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead long-range and strategic planning processes, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting to ensure CEPF’s overall effectiveness, integrity and sustainability.
• Manage the Program by: 1) Overseeing fiscal goals and responsibilities for CEPF including development and management of annual spending plans averaging $14 million, 2) Leading the  grants management team, which selects, approves and monitors all CEPF grants and 3) Designing and monitoring CEPF processes and operations
• Represent CEPF internally and externally, acting as the program’s chief representative to the CEPF Donor Council and public spokesperson on behalf of the CEPF partnership.
• Chair the CEPF Working Group, a formal body that provides guidance on strategy development, monitoring and other aspects of CEPF implementation
• Direct and advance strategic alliances with existing donor constituencies and form new programmatic allliances and ventures to advance CEPF.
• As CEPF’s chief fundraiser, lead implementation of its fundraising strategy and development of strategic, multi-million-dollar partnerships with new investors.

Working Conditions:  This position will be based at Conservation International’s headquarters in Arlington, VA and will require extensive US domestic and international travel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:

• Post graduate qualification or its equivalent with ten to fifteen years related experience preferably in an environmental management, development, or business related field.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a comprehensive, complex set of programs and multicultural teams across multiple geographic areas
•  At least 5 years of working experience with bilateral and/or multlateral donors and record of successful fundraising, partnership development and program management.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, essential in this customer facing role to  influence at the highest levels
• Possess the necessary gravitas coupled with a highly developed professional network
• Self-driven individual with the ability to combine high level strategic decision making with detailed planning and hands on management..
• Fluent in written and spoken English plus in either Spanish or French.
• Strong record of team-building, and inter-program collaboration preferably within a large NGO or international organization.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in living for at least 3 years in a developing country working on conservation and/or development issue is an advantage.
