The Web Writer will develop and deliver editorial content necessary to illustrate Conservation International’s mission and vision to a global audience. The position will be primarily responsible for researching, writing and editing written content on CI's teamearth.com website, serving as a liaison between CI divisions (GM+C and CELB in particular) to effectively establish a variety of written communications that engage and inspire  stakeholders, partners and the general public. As part of this engagement initiative, the position also requires a robust engagement in, and hands-on approach to multiple web outreach and social media vehicles, outlets and skills, with a focus on maximizing web 2.0 technologies, social media and online community-building, as well as the ability to work well with multiple internal and external partners. As assigned by the Editorial Director, the web writer will also participate in the development of materials in support of CI's strategic objectives, and provide proofreading and fact-checking for a variety of CI projects including web content and outreach, factsheets, brochures, reports, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, write, edit and maintain regular flow of content for CI's public websites, teamearth.com and conservation.org.
  • Develop and maintain a dialogue to further the outreach and community-building goals of teamearth.com. Design and manage program of regular blogging and other social media outreach (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, outreach). Integrate outreach efforts with partner marketing campaigns. Manage and moderate other online platforms (forum, blog).
  • Provide technical and administrative support (proofreading and fact-checking in particular) to GM + C with a focus on the Editorial team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of writing, editorial, journalism or public relations experience; or equivalent combination, with a focus on writing for the web
  • Demonstrated superior writing and editing skills
  • Proven ability to generate content for a variety of audiences
  • Familiarity with and affinity for Web 2.0 platforms, developments and engagement
  • Familiarity and comfort with content management systems (CMS) and email engines
  • Ability to manage large workload with multiple deadlines and deliver high-quality writing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Flexibility in a dynamic work environment with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with changing demands and priorities
  • Computer proficiency in PC operating system and MS Office Suite.

Preferred Skills:

  • Fluency in additional languages.
