Director, Strategy Analysis 
 
CI Strategy 
The Strategy team assists the Chief Operating Officer/ the Chairman's Office with implementation of CI's new strategic direction.  Specifically, the Strategy unit is charged with ensuring the refinement of the new strategic plan and other business plans, along with strategic alignment of all parts of CI with the new mission.  

The Director of Strategy Analysis is a key member of the four-person Strategy team, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Strategy and providing independent analysis, research and judgment across a range of issues. Issues may include but will not be limited to: CI’s new strategic direction at the overarching institutional level, including deliberations/decision-making of CI’s top Leadership team; the alignment of the organization’s programs to the strategic plan, including as apart of CI’s annual planning process; long-range financial planning; campaign planning; and  the identification and development of new institutional partnerships.

The Director must be a self-starter and able to quickly and accurately evaluate issues/problems/questions and formulate strategies to address them, and bring independent thinking and a range of creative problem-solving skills and technical and analytical excellence to Strategy team initiatives.  The Director of Strategy Analysis will spearhead data gathering, research and analysis, providing synthesized research and analyses, analytic perspective and recommendations to Strategy team, the Chairman’s office and CI. The Director will present his/her analyses to senior client executives in clear and compelling ways.  The Director will synthesize conclusions into recommendations and must have the communications skills necessary to work directly with senior leaders to implement change.

REPONSIBILITIES:

  • STRATEGIC RESEARCH, ANALYSIS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:  Provide critical thinking to the refinement of CI’s overarching strategy and support SVP and senior management decision-making processes by: 1) Performing analysis: quickly and comprehensively understand and apply analytical thinking to issues/problems/questions; 2) conducting independent research using a variety of analytical tools, and use strategic judgment to appropriately and accurately apply comments/feedback; 2) preparing reports and recommendations; and 3) presenting analyses:  present conclusions verbally and/or via clear and compelling reports and presentations to senior management and/or CI board members in one-on-one or group presentation settings.
  • HELP MANAGE KEY INSTITUTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:  1) Understand complex data and analysis needs, generate proposals for data/analysis presentation and implement projects in support of the SVP in her role as account manager for CI’s relationship with a key major donor, including a variety of data and analysis requirements for negotiations on funding; and 2) provide independent analysis, research, implementation and presentation required for development of institutional partnerships with and management of high-level institutional relationships, such as other major donors and international NGOs, etc.
  • HIGH-LEVEL LOGISTICAL AND LIAISON SUPPORT:  Maintain project timelines; manage and coordinate linkages within CI to acquire data from functional units; and help prepare for, organize and facilitate working meetings and Leadership retreats.  Help conceptualize content and prepare PowerPoint presentations for the CI Board of Directors and other leadership groups.
  • TRACKING INSTITUTIONAL INDICATORS: Understand institutional indicators and metrics and track, manage and report on the organizational indicators assigned to the Strategy Division, specifically on process management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and five or more years related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to take direction, structure problems, work independently and coordinate work with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to manage projects successfully, including the capacity to accurately and efficiently manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong analytical/analysis skills and experience; ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately; ability to conduct research (including sophisticated Internet searches and other kinds of data gathering) and synthesize complex data and information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; ability to deliver informative, well-organized presentations.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with basic computer programs (Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and working knowledge of basic financial statements and budgets, including excellent Excel spreadsheet skills.
  • Ability to produce clear and compelling PowerPoint presentations
  • Ability to catalog, document, organize and update the data and assure overall quality of data through, among other things, documentation of sources. Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Previous experience interacting with mid- to senior-level managers, especially extracting and analyzing processes/workflows and/or contributing to same.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • General knowledge of and interest in conservation issues.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s such as an MBA or MPA.
