Conservation Funding Division 
Reports to: Senior Director for External Affairs 
Virginia
 

The Writer/Editor for External Affairs is based in Conservation International’s Conservation Funding Division, which provides critically needed funding and technical support for CI field programs and partners to conserve globally significant biodiversity. The Writer/Editor has primary responsibility for producing the content for the division’s major communications mediums, including extensive writing of news and feature stories for divisional Web sites, newsletters, and reports. The Writer/Editor also creates high-quality content for donors and potential investors and works together with colleagues and external partners to create content for wider CI use and for use by partners and external media.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the lead writer for the division’s major communications mediums, including divisional Web sites, newsletters, and annual reports.
  • Write, compile and/or edit regular reports for the division’s donor partners, including quarterly reports to the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund donor partners, the division’s regular report to the CI Board, and to meet special requests from individual donors.
  • Lead or play a key team role in creating compelling fundraising proposals and other strategic marketing collateral for potential investors.
  • Write, regularly update and/or edit divisional and individual fund overviews, case studies of projects and partners supported, thematic fact sheets, presentations, and other materials for key publics and donor partners.
  • Work collaboratively across the division and with colleagues throughout CI and external partners to catalyze opportunities to write divisional news and features for use in wider CI and partner communications as well as in external media.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree/5 years

Required Skills:

  • This position requires a four-year degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • It also requires at least five years professional experience, including proven experience in writing and successful publishing of diverse news stories and features as well as writing and editing of other materials for targeted audiences.
  • Conversational French or Spanish required.
  • The Writer/Editor also must have excellent writing and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and to inspire and engage other team members in helping to develop content ideas and high-quality stories. 

Preferred Skills:

Strong knowledge of global environmental and development issues would be an advantage.
