Conservation International (CI) is strengthening and advancing its brand awareness in the United States and around the world. The Vice President for Brand Marketing in the Strategic Marketing + Global Communications division is responsible for leading CI's world-wide brand positioning and marketing plan development, including the execution of marketing research and implementing best practices to improve CI’s brand position. The VP will serve as a member of the Strategic Marketing + Global Communications leadership team along with the Senior VP and the VP for Digital Marketing, will work closely with CI’s senior executives, and be a trusted advisor to the senior management team.

CI is seeking an individual who wishes to assume a key leadership role in our organization to formulate the vision, strategy, and goals for our brand marketing efforts. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10-15 years experience in the corporate brand marketing industry and can demonstrate both a depth of knowledge and a proven track record for strong strategic thinking, delivering results, and team building.

This person will work closely with the organization’s leaders to build a clear and compelling marketing strategy and roadmap to increase CI’s brand awareness globally. The VP will develop and execute consistent and compelling key messages that accurately portray the work and mission of the organization. He/she will direct the global advertising, collateral, sponsorships and promotions to drive familiarity, favorability and preference for the organization’s brand and will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of performance metrics and measurements.

He/She will work with CI’s partners, including high-level corporate partners, PR agencies, governments, and multi-lateral entities to maximize their investment in the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead CI's brand positioning and increase CI’s brand awareness globally. Implement CI's positioning statement and assist in interpretation needed to create consistent execution of brand communications globally. Develop, implement and manage performance metrics and measurements to track brand familiarity, awareness and preference for the organization across key constituencies.
  • Oversee and conduct marketing research on base brand positioning. Use market research, CI’s mission, methods, and approaches, and marketing best practices to improve brand recognition worldwide and to reach a broader public audience, new members, donors, corporations, etc.
  • Create and implement marketing plans to increase brand recognition and donor support. Develop and implement strategic and tactical marketing plans for the organization and in cooperation with our partners including corporations, governments, and multi-lateral entities. Work closely with other CI Division Heads, especially the Center for Environmental Leadership in Business on corporate branding initiatives.
  • Inspire, and mentor CI staff who are part of CI’s branding efforts. Create strong working relationships with other CI Division Heads and with our field programs.

Qualifications:

  • 10-15 years of practical, relevant experience in corporate branding and PR; including experience managing PR agency partners.
  • College degree required, MBA preferred.
  • General management and organizational leadership experience is required, including project, budget and people management experience.
  • Ability to respect the talent and contribution of staff, assess strengths and needs within the department.
  • Must be seen as a leader, get results, and support the growth and development of team members.
  • Proven track record in building, developing, and implementing a global brand.
  • An ability to plan and implement long-term strategies through coordinated, multi-discipline efforts.
  • Experience leading and participating in cross functional teams and building consensus.
  • Must have creative judgment and technical/analytical/administrative skills, optimism and confidence in the face of challenges and pressure in charting a new territory for the organization.
  • Experience creating strategic marketing plans for corporate partners.
  • Some Non-profit experience is preferred.
  • Strong writing, presentation and organizational skills are a must.
