While effective conservation action is based on quality data, for many priority areas essential biological information is not available. Conservation International’s Rapid Assessment Program (RAP) sends teams of scientific experts on expeditions to explore terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems to provide biological data for areas in urgent need of such information. RAP quickly publishes expedition findings so that information is available to decision makers in local and international government, industry, and local communities and indigenous groups, providing a sound basis for conservation action and biodiversity protection. Since the first RAP expedition to the Alto Madidi Region of Bolivia in 1990, 64 RAP expeditions have been conducted around the world and RAP scientists have discovered hundreds of species of plants and animals that are new to science.
The Rapid Assessment Program is seeking an unpaid intern to assist with publication, communication and database-related activities while gaining experience in many aspects of working within an international conservation organization.
