The training intern will support, through research and writing, the development of a training guide with interactive teaching activities about the main conservation topics CI addresses (e.g., climate change, endangered species, ecosystem services). This guide will be used to train local communicators and educators to help adult community members targeted by CI field programs develop critical knowledge, understanding, and values needed to take conservation action. The volunteer will conduct other tasks related to education and training as opportunities arise.
This position is a 2 days per week position and will extend through August 1, 2008.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research (identify and acquire) existing educational resources on core conservation topics
- Enter information about educational activities into Conservation Learning Database
- Adapt/develop new adult education activities on core conservation topics
- Research and compile list of existing training opportunities in communications
- Research and write responses to FAQ from youth about biodiversity conservation and CI's work
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of ecology and conservation issues
- Familiarity with conservation education resources
- Excellent research and organizational skills
- Creativity – ability to conceptualize new ways to communicate complex environmental concepts to different audiences
- Experience teaching/training, especially with adults
- Excellent writing skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with communities in developing country preferred
- Artistic ability a huge plus
