The Center for Conservation and Government (CCG) is seeking a Senior Climate Policy Manager for U.S. Government Affairs to play a key role in implementing Conservation International's strategy to develop and communicate climate change policies to U.S. legislators, negotiators and other stakeholders. The Senior Manager will work in the Center for Conservation and Government and support its mission to promote innovative solutions that enable governments to take critical actions to conserve natural resources and biodiversity, strategically targeting climate change as an issue with a great impact on human well-being and biodiversity conservation.
The successful candidate will support the Senior Director of USG Affairs in leading the U.S. government work on climate change focused on mitigation and adaptation, serving as a key point of contact for Conservation International. The Senior Manager will work in close collaboration with members of CI's multi-disciplinary strategic climate change team to implement a dynamic climate change strategy that will help harness the valuable climate mitigation and adaptation benefits that nature provides. S/he will focus on the evolution of U.S. climate change legislation and work with colleagues to positively influence other relevant aspects of U.S. legislation. These include incentives for biofuels and broader energy and agricultural policies that impact climate change provisions as well as international conservation priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Help foster and strengthen CI’s strategic relationships with a broad range of congressional and Administration offices. Increase awareness and understanding of the important role that forests play in mitigating climate change and supporting local livelihoods, and promote the inclusion of mechanisms to finance forest carbon activities and international adaptation in U.S. climate legislation

Support and expand CI’s engagement in multi-stakeholder coalitions that support our climate change goals and objectives

Work with experts across CI and in partner organizations to prepare materials for policymakers, the media and other stakeholders that persuasively present our positions and convey CI’s scientific and field experience as it relates to U.S. climate change policy and U.S. negotiating positions in the international context

Support internal coordination of activities and initatives with CI’s climate team
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 4-6 years of related work experience.
- Demonstrated capacity for producing high-quality work on tight deadline and managing time effectively to complete diverse tasks
- Knowledge and understanding of current climate change policy issues, both in the U.S. and internationally
- Proven ability in strategic decision-making
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English
- Proven ability to engage and collaborate with individuals across various disciplines, cultures and backgrounds to achieve shared goals
- Experience researching and analyzing information from diverse sources and synthesizing the information into policy position papers
- Proficient with MS Office, Word, and Excel, as well as navigating the internet
- Passion for conservation of nature
Preferred Skills:
- Master’s Degree in public policy, international relations, natural resource management or a related field with minimum of 2 years of related work experience
- Fluency in a second language, preferably Spanish, French or Portuguese
- Previous work experience on Capitol Hill or related to the U.S. Administration
- Strong interpersonal skills with a professional, positive, and approachable demeanor
- Good judgment and a sense of humor
