Coordinator, Photography and Graphic Design

The Photography and Graphic Design Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of photography use in the Strategic Marketing + Global Communications division at Conservation International (CI). CI is dedicated to creating a global conservation ethic, and using powerful images is one of our tools in motivating people. The Coordinator should have a good eye for photography and will strategically select photos for web, print publications, presentations, videos, photo mosaics, exhibits, and much more. He/she will be responsible for selection, uploading, editing, pricing, and invoicing of all photographs for these projects. In addition, they  will lead the collection, editing, and archiving of photography in CI's image library. 

This position will also coordinate layout, design, formatting and printing of CI outreach materials, including Power Point and Keynote presentations, proposals and reports, publications, fact sheets and general marketing materials. He/she will contribute to graphical review to the aforementioned items to ensure that they are of the highest visual quality. 

The Photography Coordinator will require regular coordination with our online, design, media, editorial, events, and global engagement teams as well as with other divisions and outside partners throughout CI on a variety of projects. The ability to develop strong working relationships across functions and at all levels is key.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates institutional (internal and external) presentations (in Keynote and PowerPoint). Work with staff throughout CI on presentation needs; researches, strategically selects and edit photos, placement of text and content, design of overall presentation, create photo mosaics, etc. Create general presentation templates and guidelines for general use.
  • Conducts research, strategically selects photos, edits and uploads them for placement on Conservation.org. Coordinates quarterly updates of core content photos.
  • Negotiate photo usage fees with stock agencies. Create and maintain a photo usage tracking system for invoicing. Manage invoicing of all photo usage in publications, online, video, presentation, exhibits, etc.
  • Implement design and graphic review of products related to internal and external conferences, CI board meetings, fact sheets, communications to CI's online community, general outreach, meetings, events, annual reports, and brochures.
  • Maintain and continue to develop CI's image library by collecting, captioning and uploading photo assets. Respond to requests from CI staff members and the public on photo inquiries, account request, and training. 
  • Implement internal and external photo exhibits. Mange all aspect of the exhibit, including photo selection and editing, installation design, vendor selection and pricing, printing, etc.

Working Conditions: This position is mostly within CI offices. Some domestic travel may be required to assist with presentations or for photography exhibits may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:  Bachelor's degree/2 years.

Required Skills:

  • Two years professional design experience; college degree required in related field
  • Working proficiency with Adobe CS including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Ability to design within both PowerPoint and Keynote
  • Keen eye for photography and knowledge of editing high quality digital photographs
  • Knowledge of basic HTML programming
  • Great teamwork skills needed; this position will work closely with many teams across CI.
  • Negotiating skills in dealing with vendors is essential
  • This position will require strong project management skills to effectively manage what is expected to be multiple projects of various types with various deadlines
  • The person holding this position will also need to be adaptable to excel in a fast-paced environment with demands that can be expected to change on a weekly – and sometimes daily – basis.
