Online Content Director

Conservation Funding Division 
Reports to: Senior Director, External Affairs 
Virginia

The Online Content Director is based in Conservation International’s Conservation Funding Division, which provides critically needed funding and technical support for CI field programs and partners to conserve globally significant biodiversity. The Director has primary responsibility for the division’s digital communications mediums, with a focus on individual Fund websites, e-newsletters, and other targeted online communications for key publics and investors. The Director is also responsible for creating and ensuring the success of strategic initiatives and partnerships to deepen, expand and leverage the division’s online communications to a wider audience. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct the development of divisional websites through regular maintenance, strengthening, expansion, and monitoring, including planning and overseeing content entry, maintenance and expansion; editing and/or writing news and other content; and developing or overseeing development of multimedia and other interactive content
  • Produce and distribute individual fund e-newsletters and other targeted digital communications for donor audiences and other key publics, ensuring high-quality content and design, effective review processes with partners, timely distribution, and adaptive management based on subscriber activity
  • Catalyze and work collaboratively across the division and with colleagues throughout CI and with external partners to design and implement opportunities for divisional news and features in wider CI and partner communications
  • Design, direct/implement, and monitor strategic internal and external initiatives and partnerships to increase newsletter subscribers, cross-linkages with partner and other external sites, and other approaches to raise divisional and individual funds’ profile and meet goals for increasing traffic to websites
  • Supervise an assistant, oversee selected writing responsibilities of a writer, and manage and edit content development by selected writing consultants, colleagues and external partners to achieve key responsibilities; assign writing and other projects and oversee work to create consistent flow of content

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:

  • This position requires a four-year degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. It also requires 7 years professional experience, including at least five years managing communications programs or approaches focused on diverse partners and publics.
  • Strong knowledge of digital communications required and knowledge of global environmental and development issues would be an advantage.
  • The Director must have excellent writing and organizational skills, as well as the ability to inspire and engage other team members in ensuring effective communications.
  • The Director also must have working knowledge of HTML, Photoshop, and design programs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Spanish and/or French working knowledge.
