Strategic Marketing + Global Communications 
Reports to: Senior Director, Global News Media 
Virginia

Experienced and motivated news media professional to lead international news media outreach to raise profile, understanding and support for Conservation International worldwide, with emphasis on Europe, Africa and Asia. Excellent communications skills, writing, strategic planning and implementation required. Must be able to plan strategically, and thrive with deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Speaking and writing profciency in foreign languages including French and Spanish. Minimum 7 years experience with proven track record of creating and implementing news media campaigns resulting in high profile news placements in online, print, and broadcast news outlets. Journalism experience a plus. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create International News Media Strategy as part of overall long-term Strategic Marketing and Global Communications Division Strategy, to support the Division's strategic goals and outcomes 
  • Establish baseline in terms of earned news media results for Europe, Asia and Africa and create as well as implement a specific plan to gain or increase media coverage in each market, with specific targets to be set according to baseline results 
  • Obtain high profile earned news placements in Europe, Asia and Africa that support CI's Climate Change Business Plan and the Lost There, Felt Here public awareness campaign
  • Conceptualize and pitch news and feature stories to online, broadcast and print news outlets
  • Set up editorial board visits with high-profile European news media outlets. 
  • Leverage high level events for CI media coverage  
  • Work closely with entire Strategic Marketing and Global Communications team to ensure international news supports CI Storytelling Initiative for CI's overall communications outreach 
  • Write and distribute press releases and oversee creation of full news media packages including visual supporting materials
  • Direct news media outreach to support CI's objectives at major international conferences

Working Conditions: Up to 50% international travel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree/7years

Required Skills:

  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills
  • Proficiency in French and Spanish

Preferred Skills:

  • Portuguese or other language skills.
