The Major Gifts Associate is a key asset to the Major Gifts team and supports all Major Gifts fundraising activities, which focuses on individual donors giving $10,000 or more annually. The Major Gifts Associate interacts with all members of the Development team, as well as major donors, Board members, program staff, and the Chairman's Office to ensure a timely, high-quality product.  This position is essential to the success of the Major Gifts team and will have the opportunity for broad experiences within the organization, including some travel for meetings and special events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job responsibilities will include administrative duties as well as learning and supporting specialized fundraising functions of the Major Gifts team. 

Administrative responsibilities will include, among others:

  • Processing checks and other revenue from major donors
  • Completing data entry of donor information into the Raiser's Edge database with a high degree of accuracy
  • Coordinating travel for the Los Angeles and Southeast Regional Development Directors
  • Processing travel reimbursements and maintaining team supplies 

Fundraising support will include:

  • Managing event follow-up communications and strategy development
  • Producing appeal mailings, email communications, and other personalized donor correspondence
  • Creating and running reports relating to campaign strategies and fundraising portfolios for the Regional Fundraising Directors
  • Assisting with overall portfolio moves and strategies for the Regional Fundraising Directors
  • This Associate position will work closely with several team members in various cities throughout the country

Working Conditions: Infrequent heavy lifting and travel 1-2 times per year will be involved.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:

  • This position requires a college degree and 1-3 years of full-time work experience. 
  • The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, hard-working, curious, resourceful, and able to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. 
  • Because the Associate supports a team member in California, the candidate must have the ability to work a 10am-6pm or 11am-7pm workday everyday.

Preferred Skills:

  • A background in or passion for the environment is desirable, and experience with Raiser's Edge database software is a plus
  • Strong writing skills are also desirable
  • Individuals with strong interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task will be successful
