Conservation International (CI) is seeking a dynamic and team oriented individual to lead CI's strategic Climate Change team. Working with the Senior Vice President of the Center for Environmental Leadership in Business, the Director will coordinate and manage CI's Climate Change team, a group of approximately 30 experts from across Conservation International. The Climate Change team is responsible for the design and implementiation of CI's climate change strategy and business plan. The plan's three-year goal is to ensure that the world has the knowledge, experience and resources to help hundreds of millions of people adapt to climate change; prevent the extinction of more than 100,000 threatened species; and reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by deforestation in priority regions by 1 to 2 billion tons per year.
The Director of the Climate Change team will engage with all levels of the organization, bringing consensus and agreement among stakeholders to advance the success of CI's climate change business plan. Reporting to CI senior staff , the Director will monitor and manage the progress in implementing CI's climate plan and on strategic climate change issues, as they arise. The Director may represent CI at external meetings on climate change with NGOs, business, and governments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project/Team Management: Develop strategies, action plans, and budgets, monitoring and advising to ensure compliance

Organize, prepare and lead regular team meetings and retreats. Manage and audit the team's composition. Establish and maintain routine formal and informal communications among the team members to ensure that priorities and roles are well-defined and understood. Update Senior Leadership on climate team and business plan progress

Fundraising: Working with CI's Resources Division, identify and steward key donors. Prepare fundraising proposals, budgets, and reports. Participate in fundraising meetings and follow-up activities

Research and information gathering: Gather relevant and timely information and intelligence on key developments in the climate change issue, providing regular feedback and reporting to the team. Make recommendations for developing, and coordinating strategic alliances with other organizations.
Working Conditions: Position requires approximately 10% of domestic and international travel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in public policy, economics or environmental science and minimum of 5 years related work experience in climate change issues or advanced degree with equivalent combination

Knowledge and understanding of international policy affecting climate change

Superior organizational skills, including project and budget management
