World Water Week 2012 was held in Stockholm, Sweden from 26 -31 August 2012. This annual meeting organized by the Swedish International Water Institute (SIWI) brings together over 2,500 representatives who are advancing work on water, including members of governments, academia, civil society and the private sector. It focuses on linking best practices, scientific understanding, policy and decision-making from a global perspective on the state of water sources, environmental health, livelihoods and poverty reduction agendas.
Conservation International's team focused on profiling our portfolios of work in freshwater ecosystem management, service provision/valuation, linking freshwater conservation and development,climate change adaptation, and food security. We believe that sustainable development and green economies will only be achieved through a comprehensive approach, where water is at the very center, driving the water, food, climate, species, health and cultural service delivery. Watersheds and water service flows are embedded across economic sectors, link ecosystems with economies, and connect landscapes and seascapes.
We also concentrated on forming collaborations with partners and sharing our work in food security that combines management of natural areas in production landscapes with implementation of improved farming practices to deliver more sustainable, resilient food production and livelihoods.
