Support local, state, national, and international environmental organizations.
There are many ways you can support environmental organizations and the work they do:
- Donate your time
- Keep your eyes open for volunteer opportunities in your community, such as habitat restoration projects or litter clean-up days
- Lobby your city council, state, or federal government to get environmental legislation passed
- Contribute monetarily to help promote an organization's work.
Conservation organizations work in a variety of ways (education, legislation, grassroots, etc.) to help protect and preserve the natural environment. The not-for-profit organizations generally rely on funding from individual donations, memberships, private company support, and foundation grants.
The Internet has made it easy for you to find and fund programs in which you are interested. Be sure to check and make sure the site is reputable, and that the funds are actually going to the group they are proporting to. Most organizations have online giving or contact information on their websites for you to find out more about their programs and how to donate.
