With funding from USAID and the Walton Family Foundation, the SLP has established a grant facility that will invest in replicable low carbon business models that contribute to improved livelihoods and the preservation of natural capital. Significantly, the SLP will also identify and help to reduce existing investment barriers to private sector participation in low carbon development, thereby catalysing investment into established or new green growth commodity production and supporting market mechanisms. To ensure the quality and impact of its investments, and to monitor results in ways that can generate proof of concept and increasingly larger scale investments, the SLP will work with Applicants to provide ongoing technical and strategic oversight and support of project activities.
Calls for proposals and other news about grant availability are announced on this site. Eligibility criteria for Applicants can be found in the Request for Proposal documents below.

CLOSED Title: Strategies for Reducing Emissions from Fuelwood Harvesting in Mandailing Natal
Geography: Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra. Indonesia
Closing Date for Applications: 15 April 2013

The activities supported in this RFP are focused on the development and implementation of strategies to improve fuelwood harvesting practices and use in local communities which will reduce the pressure on natural forests, reduce emissions and improve livelihoods. To ensure that projects are suitable and address specific community needs, Applicants will need to include as part of their project design strategy, a feasibility assessment / scoping study to identify target areas for implementation. This study will be critical to ensuring that projects are developed with local conditions in mind and will not operate in a vacuum.
The RFP is open to civil society and private sector organizations at both local and international level. Applicants should demonstrate how funding from the SLP will enable them to generate broad social and environmental impacts on a sustainable scale, as well as clear plans for continuation and/or replication of the proposed project activity as a Sustainable Low Emissions Business Model after initial funding by the Facility.
