Althelia Climate Fund
On November 9, 2011, CI announced an innovative new partnership with the Althelia Climate Fund (ACF), a newly formed investment fund that will focus on sustainable land use, ecosystem services and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation "plus" conservation, the sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks) projects. In addition to providing up-front bridge financing of $1.35 million to help jump start the ACF, CI will be an integral part of the Fund and its development through its participation in ACF's Expert Board, which will help the Fund determine the right projects to invest in.

Sustainable Landscape Partnership
CI is pioneering is an initiative in Indonesia, the Sustainable Landscapes Partnership (SLP), an important new vehicle for demonstrating the concepts that are being discussed this month at the World Climate Summit (WCS) held concurrently with the UNFCCC's COP17 in Durban, South Africa.

The SLP began as a partnership among CI, USAID, The Walton Family Foundation and the Government of Indonesia, with $20 million in funding over a five-year period. The initiative is an innovative public-private partnership focused on developing proof-of-concept REDD+ and low emissions development projects.  Initial goals of the SLP are: conserve more than five million hectares of high-biodiversity habitat in Indonesia; prevent more than 100 million tons of CO2 emissions through conservation and sustainable management of tropical forest and peat landscapes; and support the creation of markets for sustainably sourced products and supply chain efforts.
