We have all daydreamed about one day taking the “trip of a lifetime,” whether it includes close-up wildlife encounters, interactions with celebrities or luxurious spa treatments. These dream vacations may seem like the ultimate indulgence – but what if your unforgettable trip could also benefit people, species and ecosystems across the globe?
“The Green Auction will use the knowledge and resources of a world class auction house to raise much needed funds which will go directly towards the maintenance and protection of the ecosystems, habitats and species that are the framework of a healthy planet where all people can prosper.”
– Peter Seligmann, CEO and Board Chairman of CI
Now it can, thanks to the “Bid to Save the Earth” Green Auction. Organized by Christie’s International, this first-of-its-kind charity auction is raising funds for four leading environmental organizations, including Conservation International (CI).

In an important example of just how big of an impact individual people can make for conservation efforts, these generous donations are bringing us closer to our goal of a healthy, prosperous planet for all living things.
The Live Auction
The live auction was held on Earth Day last week at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Emceed by actor Chevy Chase, the carbon-neutral event also welcomed Harrison Ford, Leonardo DiCaprio, Salma Hayek, Alec Baldwin, Candice Bergen and a slew of other celebrities, business leaders, adventurers and collectors.
In addition to benefitting CI’s programs, money raised through the auction will also go to Oceana, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Central Park Conservancy. Altogether, these organizations are working in 150 countries on all seven continents.

“A Bid to Save the Earth” also has a silent auction component, which continues through Thursday, May 6. Among CI’s items still up for bid:

So what does “Star Wars” memorabilia have to do with conservation?
“With pressure mounting on our shared home, Earth, innovative fundraising strategies are more important than ever,” says Peter Seligmann, CEO and Board Chairman of CI. “This particular initiative will use the knowledge and resources of a world class auction house to raise much needed funds which will go directly towards the maintenance and protection of the ecosystems, habitats and species that are the framework of a healthy planet where all people can prosper.”
It’s not too late to be a part of the Green Auction. Check out the list of items up for bid – or, if the lots are out of your price range, text “GoGreen” to 20222 to make a $10 donation to the cause.
