This Halloween, Conservation International wants to spook you – in a good way – by showing you some of the planet’s most exciting creatures and get you thinking about conservation. At first glance, the animals featured in our new video and photo gallery may seem creepy, or crawly, or bump-in-the-night-y, but really, they are anything but scary.

IN PHOTOS: Unsettling, Unexpected and Unique

In truth, each species in the video – and every species on Earth – plays an invaluable role in maintaining the web of connections that provide each of us with clean water, fresh air and plentiful medicine and food.

The real culprits here – the scary bogeymen – are habitat destruction and climate change. Across the world today, a species is driven to the edge of extinction about once every twenty minutes, and that’s why CI scientists and partners are working to protect individual species, entire landscapes, and the natural resources that benefit us all.
