Jobs, Careers, and Volunteering

Q: Where can I find out about job/volunteer/internship opportunities at CI?
A: For information about career opportunities at Conservation International, please see our Careers page. Job and internship opportunities are updated regularly. If you are seeking a position that is not listed on the page above, or if the deadline is passed, then the position is no longer available. CI does not offer volunteer opportunities in the field; any volunteer positions available at CI headquarters will be listed on the jobs page. Online application is available through the Employment page. Resumes sent through the Contact Us form or to inquiry@conservation.org will not be considered.

Q: Where can I get information about the required education and experience for a career in conservation?
A: You can view the experience and education requirements for jobs currently available at CI on our Employment page. You can also find ideas about conservation careers on our Investigate Biodiversity Careers page or from our team.

Q: I applied for a job through the CI website. How can I follow up on my application?
A: Our hiring manager will contact applicants as appropriate. If you feel there has been a technical error with your online submission, please use the Contact Us form to verify that your application has been received.

Funding/Partnerships

Q: What are your funding programs and how do I apply for funding?
A: CI is a field-based organization that believes strongly in building alliances with partner institutions, but we are not a grant maker in the manner of a foundation or other traditional funding source. Instead, CI manages several specific innovative funding mechanisms. We encourage you to learn more about them to determine your eligibility:

  • The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) is a catalyst creating strategic working alliances among diverse groups, combining unique capacities and eliminating duplication of efforts for a comprehensive, coordinated approach to conservation challenges. The CEPF website provides application guidelines for on-the-ground, community, and grassroots groups working where biodiversity is at greatest risk.

  • Global Conservation Fund (GCF) is a unique funding mechanism that serves as a well-capitalized pool of financial resources to create and endow the management of new protected areas in the world’s most biologically important regions. The Fund aims to leverage additional investments by working with partners, including existing conservation trust funds and land trusts, and by securing additional financial resources from public and private donors. Visit the application form.

  • Verde Ventures does not provide grants; it makes debt and equity investments of $25,000-$250,000 in small and medium-sized enterprises ($5 million or less in assets) that are strategically important to conservation.

Q: Do you offer student funding or individual grants?
A: Conservation International does not fund individual grants, including assistance for continuing education, thesis research, travel, or private business ventures.

Q: How can I learn more about a potential partnership or collaboration with CI?
A: To inquire about potential partnerships or collaborations, please visit the websites below and use their "Contact Us" forms.

Q: How can I get information on Ecotourism?

A: For information about Ecotourism, visit CI’s ecotourism page, which includes links to other websites for more information. For an answer to a specific question about ecotourism, please write to ecotour@conservation.org.

Q: Where can I find information about the biodiversity hotspots?
A: Information about Earth’s biodiversity hotspots is available at www.biodiversityhotspots.org. For a specific question about the hotspots, please write to hotspots@conservation.org.

Q: How can I educate my students on the importance of conservation and biodiversity?
A: CI has several websites designed to be a helpful resource for teachers and students. For a complete list, please visit CI Sites.

Of particular interest might be:
  • Investigate Biodiversity: This website includes resources for anyone interested in conservation, including students and teachers: science project ideas and guidelines, interviews with CI employees, advice for pursuing careers in conservation, and a quiz for determining your ecological impact with tips on how to be more eco-friendly. Investigate Biodiversity also has online expeditions, which include details about our expedition teams, science tools, and conservation issues, as well as the species in the region.

  • Conservation Features: CI's in-depth features and news offer timely and relevant information about conservation efforts around the world.

  • Biodiversity Hotspots: This website explains the biodiversity hotspots strategy followed by Conservation International and gives detailed scientific information about the species, threats, and conservation action in each hotspots region -- some of the most remarkable yet threatened places on Earth. It offers a searchable database of endemic endangered species and is rich with maps, images, and data.

  • Explore Madagascar: This website was designed for a younger audience, featuring games, downloads, and more information about the island hotspot of Madagascar. It also has videos featuring landscapes, lemurs, Malagasy culture, and more.

You can also sign up for regular email updates from Conservation International. You'll receive notice of conservation news and events around the world, as well as opportunities to take action, such as participating in live online chats with conservation experts. Join now!

Q: How can I find information for a research paper?
A: Conservation.org is rich with information for you. We recommend you search the site using our Sitemap to browse by topic, or our Search engine to explore all of CI's sites by keyword. For help in your search, please use our Contact Us form. We will do our best to respond to your request. Please be aware that the more specific your research question is, the less likely we are to have the information generally available on our website. If you have a question for staff in a specific department or CI scientists we can forward your request, but our staff is very busy and may not be able to get back to you in time for your assignment. It may be helpful to include the due date of your project in your email.

Q: I offer a service or product I think would be useful to your organization.
A: If there is a specific project, person, region, or department you feel would directly benefit or be interested in your service, we will gladly forward your information to the relevant contact.
